Mike D’Antoni’s Dark Humor Getting Darker with Each Laker Loss

Bleacher Report – NBA - 8 months ago.

L.A. might be the city of 70-degree winters, but for Mike D’Antoni and the struggling Los Angeles Lakers, not even the SoCal sunshine is enough to warm a season grown darker by the day.

Nowhere are the nerves more obvious than with D’Antoni, whose new coping mechanism seems to be a unique brand of cryptic comedy.

It began during following a practice session on January 9, when D’Antoni lobbed out a trio of darkly weird quotables straight out of a Wes Anderson movie.

Woah! Coach throwin' shade!

That makes me never want to drive through a tunnel again.

That's actually pretty funny.

To be fair, every coach has his... Read more

What Does Kobe Bryant Have Left to Prove to Rest of the NBA?

Bleacher Report – NBA - 19 hours ago. Long the poster boy for defiance, determination and self-scissored destiny, Kobe Bryant’s to-do list shouldn’t include the burden of proof. Nearly two decades of accolades—both collective and individual—should stand alone, speaking for themselves, saying all there is to say. But Kobe Bryant is Kobe Bryant. Real or make-believe, there would always be something left for […]...

What a Sign-and-Trade for Eric Bledsoe Would Have to Look Like

Bleacher Report – NBA - 20 hours ago. The differences between Eric Bledsoe and the Phoenix Suns are rapidly becoming irreconcilable, and it’s no longer crazy to ask if a divorce is the best thing for both parties. The mechanics of pulling off such a separation, though, are only getting more complicated. In fact, even with the latest intriguing development in the ongoing […]...

J.J. Hickson Suspension a Blessing in Disguise for the Denver Nuggets

Bleacher Report – NBA - 22 hours ago. Not all suspensions are created equally. Whereas Ray Rice is staring down an indefinite one from the NFL (on account of well-documented domestic abuse), The Denver Post’s Christopher Dempsey reports that, “[Denver] Nuggets forward J.J. Hickson’s season will be delayed five games after he was suspended Wednesday for a violation of the NBA’s drug policy.” Dempsey […]...

Which NBA Team Has Best Young Talent?

Bleacher Report – NBA - 22 hours ago. There’s no more valuable commodity in the NBA than young talent. From a front-office perspective, young players (especially draftees) are cheaper, easy to mold and even easier to flip for other assets. And as far as fans are concerned, it’s tough to top the excitement of a prospect with still-untapped potential. Speaking at the Bloomberg […]...

Is Cleveland Cavaliers’ Big 3 Best of the Superteam Era?

Bleacher Report – NBA - 23 hours ago. LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love are obviously going to make the Cleveland Cavaliers into one of the NBA’s best teams. Whether they’re capable of moving past the Chicago Bulls and the rest of the Eastern Conference is up for debate, but they’ll at least be a part of the competition for a No. […]...

How to Get Andrew Wiggins’ NBA Career Started on a Star Path

Bleacher Report – NBA - 1 day ago. The Minnesota Timberwolves should have their ticket to NBA relevance in tantalizing prospect Andrew Wiggins, but only if the rookie can cash in on his massive potential. With the right complementary cast, an offensive system suited to his skills and demands that can challenge without frustrating, the franchise can fast-track its phenom for stardom. In some ways, the Wolves already […]...

Realistic Expectations for Bojan Bogdanovic’s Rookie Season with Brooklyn Nets

Bleacher Report – NBA - 1 day ago. When Paul Pierce took his talents to the Washington Wizards this summer, he left a hole on the Brooklyn Nets roster. But instead of blindly throwing money around or pulling the trigger on a painfully short-sighted deal—much like the one that brought Pierce and Kevin Garnett to Brooklyn—the Nets were rewarded for their patience. Three years […]...

Meet R.J. Hunter, the Top Mid-Major 2015 NBA Draft Prospect

Bleacher Report – NBA - 1 day ago. It’s not always easy to judge how valuable a mid-major NBA draft prospect is, as it’s tough to translate small-school success to the pro ranks. But sometimes you just know a flat-out baller when you see one. That’s the case for 6’5″ Georgia State junior R.J. Hunter, the sweet-shooting 2-guard who earned 2013-14 Sun Belt […]...

Who Should Start at Small Forward for Los Angeles Lakers?

Bleacher Report – NBA - 1 day ago. To say there’s not a lot of obvious depth at the small forward position for the Los Angeles Lakers is saying just a little. It’s a tale of “tweeners.” Wesley Johnson is the clearest natural candidate, even if Mike D’Antoni did insist on using him as a vastly undersized power forward last season. And then […]...

Breaking Down Milwaukee Bucks’ Small Forward Position for 2014-15 Season

Bleacher Report – NBA - 2 days ago. While there are certainly positional debates to be had elsewhere on the roster, the scenario at small forward for the Milwaukee Bucks—given the logjam and abundance of talent—provides an intriguing one for the 2014-15 season. Rookie Jabari Parker and second-year phenom Giannis Antetokounmpo are arguably the team’s two biggest talents, and both are most suited […]...

The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Discussing for NBA Front Offices

Bleacher Report – NBA - 2 days ago. When the doors are closed, and NBA team executives are speaking freely among themselves, the words can be blunt, and the judgments harsh. A player might be called selfish, or lazy, or a knucklehead, or an alcoholic.    Before lavishing a player with a multimillion contract, a team might scrutinize his family life, his friendships, […]...

Ranking the NBA’s 20 Worst Offenses of All Time

Bleacher Report – NBA - 2 days ago. Figuring out the exact putridity of the worst offenses in NBA history isn’t a particularly easy task, especially when you’re stacking modern-day units up against the less-talented offense of the 1950s and ’60s.  Just looking at points scored doesn’t do the trick, because that doesn’t allow pace to come into play. For that reason, offensive […]...

DeAndre Jordan’s 2014-15 Campaign Will Determine Los Angeles Clippers’ Direction

Bleacher Report – NBA - 2 days ago. The Los Angeles Clippers are ready to go as far as DeAndre Jordan can take them. Sure, there are other pieces to the puzzle, but this franchise’s fate—both for the 2014-15 campaign and beyond—is strongly tied to Jordan’s ability to protect the paint, clean the glass and provide some type of positive at the offensive […]...
